Welcome Address to Grace Covenant University By Bishop I. O. Morakinyo Theme: "Raising Godly Leaders for Global Impact" Protocol The Chairman of the Governing Council, The Vice-Chancellor, Members of the Board of Trustees, Distinguished Members of the Senate, Faculty and Staff, Special Guests, Parents and Guardians, Dear Students, Ladies and Gentlemen, Grace and peace to you in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with profound joy, heartfelt gratitude, and a deep sense of purpose that I welcome every one of you to Grace Covenant University. Today marks another significant milestone in the history of this great institution, where faith, knowledge, character, and excellence unite to prepare men and women for meaningful service to God, humanity, and the nations. The establishment of Grace Covenant University is not merely the construction of another academic institution; it is the fulfillment of a divine vision to raise transformational leaders whose lives will reflect integrity, wisdom, innovation, and godly character. We believe education is one of God's greatest instruments for changing individuals, communities, and nations. The Bible declares in Proverbs 1:7, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." This scripture reminds us that true education begins with reverence for God. Academic excellence without moral values may produce brilliant minds but not trustworthy leaders. At Grace Covenant University, our commitment is to produce graduates who excel intellectually while living lives marked by integrity, compassion, humility, and servant leadership. To our students, I warmly welcome you to a place of limitless possibilities. You have not come merely to earn degrees but to discover your God-given purpose. Your years here should be a season of intellectual growth, spiritual maturity, personal discipline, leadership development, and innovation. I encourage you to embrace every opportunity to learn, ask questions, think creatively, and develop solutions to the challenges facing our world. Remember that greatness is achieved not by talent alone but through diligence, discipline, prayer, and unwavering commitment. As the Apostle Paul writes in Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Let this scripture guide your studies, relationships, research, and future careers. To our distinguished faculty and staff, I sincerely appreciate your dedication and sacrifice. You are not simply educators; you are mentors, builders of destiny, and custodians of future generations. Your influence extends far beyond the classroom. Continue to inspire excellence, encourage innovation, and model integrity in all you do. To our esteemed parents and guardians, thank you for entrusting your children to this institution. We regard this responsibility as both a privilege and a sacred trust. By God's grace, we are committed to providing an environment where academic excellence, moral discipline, spiritual growth, and holistic development flourish together. These challenges require leaders of wisdom, competence, and unwavering integrity. It is our prayer that Grace Covenant University will become a fountain from which such leaders emerge to influence governments, businesses, churches, healthcare, education, science, technology, and every sphere of society. As Jesus declared in Matthew 5:14–16: "You are the light of the world... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." May every graduate of this university become a light in the world and a blessing to the nations. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to everyone whose sacrifices, prayers, generosity, and commitment have contributed to the birth and growth of this institution. May the Lord richly reward your labor of love. As we look toward the future, let us work together to build a university distinguished not only by academic achievement but also by spiritual vitality, ethical leadership, and compassionate service. Together, we will shape lives, transform communities, and impact nations for generations to come. In closing, I pray that Almighty God will continually bless Grace Covenant University. May He grant wisdom to its leadership, strength to its faculty, favor to its students, and abundant resources for its continued growth and global influence.
